Microsoft Office 4.2 (3.5)

edited February 2015 in Software
Hi not sure where this should go.
The Microsoft Office 4.2 (3.5) english disk 22, file BACKGRND.PC_ might be corrupted. The install failed on this file (had to ignore it) and when I tried to manually uncompress it, it also failed.
It could also be me but....
Just an FYI:

  • I found a suitable replacement. It is under PowerPoint 4.0a (3.5) english, disk 10, file backgrnd.pc_.
The file is more comparable to the other file sizes of the other languages and it decompresses to the correct size of 506,368. Not sure if this is the exact one that was there originally but it seems to be.
  • Thanks for pointing that out. You are right, that file is corrupted. Additionally, the dumps are not authentic. For now I have removed that download.

I think the CD version is intact, but is also not an authentic dump.
  • yes I believe that all of them are intact, but I also agree that they do not appear to be images of the original disks, but otherwise they do install and run correctly.
  • I am not sure what your policy is on this type of thing, but I would like to have it stay, with a note to the problem. The reason being is that maybe this is the best there is out there out to be found at the moment. (and it is not all bad, just the one file)
    Just a thought.
    Thanks
  • You're right. I was thinking I would try and fix it and re-upload it, but they are as common and inexpensive as dirt on eBay. So there is no reason to have a non-genuine dump.

Although all of the ones out there at the moment are the later 20-disk 1.44mb "Standard" edition, not the earlier 25-disk 1.44mb original edition.
  • What exactly is "inexpensive as dirt"?
  • Um, less than this?:

But really ~15-40 dollars or so depending on if they have the manuals. Wouldn't bother with ones that ask more. Looking in the ended auctions, I saw a 25 disk set for about 7 dollars that ended with zero bids a few days ago, perhaps they will re-list it. In this case, I wouldn't bother with manuals though, that would greatly increase the shipping and nobody is going to scan those monsters.
  • Of course you could also buy them and find out that half the discs are overwritten or damaged beyond use....
  • I was thinking along the same line as you. It is easy to fix as only need to copy the one file.
The CD appears to be correct concerning the files and all installs fine.
I never really looked on e-bay to see any cost.
