DDR4 RAM for $53?

edited February 2015 in Hardware
I did a little bit of surfing around on Newegg and PCPartPicker, and managed to find 4GB of RAM, DDR4 RAM, for $53.

I'm not joking.

Would you buy it?

  • I don't even have a DDR4 board, so I probably wouldn't.

It just blows my mind that you can get 4GB of DDR4 RAM for so cheap, it'd be nice to have a build with this.
  • That's pretty consistent with past trends I'd say. Usually the new generation is pretty cheap to start and the previous generation starts increasing in price. Saw similar things happen with DDR2 and DDR3.
  • I wouldn't say that's cheap. 4GB is like back in the day of having 4MB in a 8MB world.

I found a stick cheaper here. Even has free shipping.

True, however there's a significant speed difference between the two.
  • Three years ago I paid $36 for 4Gb DDR3 1600MHz CL9, nowadays you seem to have to pay closer to $56 for the same stick... and DDR4 is even more expensive. Nothing "cheap" in sight around here.

(Although, seven years ago 4Gb DDR2 was worth about $100, so I guess current ram prices are low after all.)

These are comparisons of prices of the same store. Sure, there's always some shady website where stuff is cheaper if you're brave enough.
  • Probably would buy it if my PC supported it, although I don't really see any reason to get it at the moment.

My sister's on DDR2, and her laptop isn't really slow at all.
