[SOLVED] DVD-RW wont work!

edited March 2015 in Hardware
Hello guys,

I have a nice HP Pavilion 15 from 2014(I guess) and I have him for just 7 months. I never take him out of house (not allowed by my mom) I carefully use him, and sudently my DVD drive just broke. A shame, because I need it for this site to upload stuff, and I can't afford a new laptop and/or drive. The DVD slot can open, but if I put something in it, it says that nothing is in the drive. I've tryed it with a blank DVD, blank CD, a Sims CD-ROM, a Friends DVD. NOTHING WILL WORK!! So guys, who's going to help me?

  • I've had tons of cheap OEM drives die on me for no reason. Go years on end with out using it and when its time to use it for a Movie or a classic game it just refuses to work. Clean the eye to it with a Cleaning CD. If that doesn't work then you will have to replace the drive. Might be easier to just get a external drive, will be cheaper and easier to cope.
  • I recommend getting a Lite-On brand drive. There are the only brand I have used and really liked. There are other good brands, but I never used them.
  • TCPMeta,

You're right, maybe I should try that. Luckily I've got one of those, but I don't have the liquid anymore... must I do this with or without the cleaning liquid? And if I must do, where to buy it?? And, unfortunately as I said, can't buy a external drive, don't have the money, and I hate to carry it...

    Happy computing,

  • What TCPMeta said, cleaning the lens, if that fails a $20 or less USB drive will be your best bet.

However, if the machine is only 7 months old, they should typically have a 1 year warranty...You can check its warranty status here http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home
  • Pioneer is a good brand. Apple uses Pioneer in older models and only had one fail on me due to stupidity.
