Windows 2000 Professional DualBoot with Windows 8.1 Update

edited April 2015 in Software
Hey.
I was digging through some old CD's at my house, and while coming along some very interesting programs, I found a GENUINE Windows 2000 Professional CD.
My question is, is it possible to DualBoot Windows 2000 Professional with Windows 8.1 Update? Or will it mess up 8.1?

  • As long as you don't have both of them share a single partition then it will be fine.
  • If you've got Windows 8.1, chances are you're using GPT and possibly EFI booting. You may come across some issues with those. It might be easier with a second drive or even virtualising it.
  • When you install, make sure to restore W8.1's BOOTMGR, as Windows 8.1 won't even boot or be detected by 2K's NTLDR.
  • Always install Windows in chronological order, so the system can handle everything. You'll likely have problems booting 2000 on anything remotely modern. Use a virtual machine.
