Today i on OSBetaArchive i see page on MS-DOS 5.00.224 BETA and i download file on top page it say
MS-DOS 5.00.224 BETA is oldest leak of MS-DOS 5 date 06-07-1990. there some interested stuff in build
Program Manager and File Manager in build too just like in windows 3.0. EDLIN in build too. SNOPPY.EXE
is INFER oldest version of MSD. QBASIC and EDIT have copyright say 1990 not 1991. CASTLE.BAS is
oldest version GORILLA. There also Reversi to use Reversi go on QBASIC type Reversi.bas.

Cool stuff. I always found it interesting how much beta testing they did on DOS 5. DOS 4.00 probably wasn't even tested at all. :P And earlier DOS releases were usually left to OEMs to customize and test.

A lot of things were changing direction back then, and with DOS 5, MS was really getting serious about DOS and Windows.

The DOS 5 betas were so widely spread on BBSes, even a nobody like myself encountered them.

I never actually used DOS 5. I went from 4.01 to 6.22.
