Different IP settings for different wireless networks

edited June 2015 in Software
Is it possible to set different IP settings (more specifically, DNS) settings for different wireless networks in Windows 8.1? I've tried googling this, but it seems that no one has ever tried this (or I used the wrong keywords). I'm trying to do this because my ISP's DNS servers sometimes simply don't respond, so I get a lot of "domain name not resolved" errors, so I'm trying to get my laptop to use Google's public DNS while connected to the home WiFi, but not anywhere else. I know this is possible on Android and iOS.

  • Last I checked you can only specify DNS servers once per adapter in Windows. Your best bet would be to adjust your home router to send Google DNS with the DHCP request.
  • If you don't want to change your router for some reason (really the best solution for this situation), it looks like there's a freeware app to do basically what you want to do:

  • Can't you just log into the router and change the DNS it queries, or the DNS it gives out for DHCP?
