Sound Blaster emulators for MS-DOS

edited June 2015 in Hardware
Do anybody know if there are any Sound Blaster emulators that would run in MS-DOS on modern computers? I would like to be able to play old computer games and run other old MS-DOS software as they worked with old computers. But it is difficult to get any old computers nowadays and they would also require a lot of space.

  • Just use DOSBox in windows.
  • Technically, the later "Sound Blaster" PCI sounds cards actually used an emulation layer to operate at all under DOS. Those cards were really "Sound Blaster" in name only. Very annoying as some programs didn't like EMM386 being loaded, and the emulation layer would cause some programs to run very choppy.

Also, if you try to run MS-DOS games directly on "modern" computers, you will run in to many other compatiblity issues. Modern VGA emulation is very poor, modern VESA only exists to run Windows setup, SATA CD drives no longer support CD audio, you probably won't have a joystick port, even if you have one you can't run your lobotomized WinModem (for multiplayer games) outside of Windows.... well, the list goes on and on. "Modern" computers are totally lobotomized.
