CDE on Ubuntu 14.04

edited August 2015 in Software
So I decided to try and compile CDE on my desktop with Ubuntu 14.04 on it (instructions here), and everything surprisingly went well, so I thought I'd post some screen shots.

The file manager (which, as you will see in the next screenshot does not like folders with a lot of files

It took a while for the file manager to load the ~3000 files in the /usr/bin directory

The find feature, however, is quite fast

And finally, Firefox

I have to say that CDE was quite an interesting environment to use. However, it lacks things like Unicode support (I didn't even try using ibus or fcitx), and for some reason you can't move around Steam windows. I don't think I'll use it on an everyday basis because of those things, but that's why I have fvwm (a more modern window manager with CDE-style windows)

Comments

  • CDE looks like old-fashioned X-Window but in modern cool stuff, oh, my memories just goes to old debian PC 8)

PS: can you upload images in another place? Like to see that run in Ubuntu. Because my ISP block it :(
