Help!!! What is an Upgrade download!!!

edited September 2015 in Software
Hello. I am NEW here. I am trying to get my hands on a copy of MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1. What does the orange Upgrade box mean? I don't want to take any chances, I just want the real stuff.

Thank you! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

  • I can't provide you with a dictionary explanation of the word upgrade until you tell us what's your native language, but in the simplest terms upgrade-version upgrades an older version.

Meanwhile (Full) most likely means the "real stuff" you're looking for.
  • On this site "Upgrade" means that the product expects you have a previous version of the software product installed or in some cases a competitors products.

In some cases an "Upgrade" version may lack files needed to perform a full install. In others the "Upgrade" check is artificial and may even be bypassable. Either way, the distribution media differs in some way from any "full" version.

At Winworld we strive to archive all variations of a product, including full, upgrade, and OEM releases.

So yes, you probably want the "full" version. :) Thanks for shopping Winworld!
  • The best and easy way is to use MS-DOS 6.22 OEM (with Enhanced Tools).
It can be installed on clean HDD without DOS.
In other word, SETUP program shows you to install DOS easily.

Of course MS-DOS 6.x Upgrade edition can be installed on clean HDD, but
the method is not so easy.

    1) Boot MS-DOS 6.x from floppy and exit from SETUP.
    2) Run FDISK and make Partition (Set Active on C:)
    3) Boot MS-DOS 6.x again and exit from SETUP.
    4) Run FORMAT and transfer the MS DOS System files to HDD as follows.
    A>FORMAT C: /S
    5) Boot MS-DOS 6.x from HDD and run SETUP.EXE on A:

    * Uninstall disk (Blank formatted disk) must be needed to backup previous DOS system.
