WHDI-Compliant Video Cards?

edited September 2015 in Hardware
I was on an IRC channel and someone linked me to this. That is a GTX 460 with WHDI compliance, which i can safely say i've never heard of or seen before, and with a bit of googling this is the only one i've seen that exists.

What do you guys think of this strange concept, and how do you think it would be utilized if at all?

I personally couldn't see myself using one, maybe someone with an HTPC. I'm really not sure.

  • Well, maybe it could be a good idea if you wanted to stream video to a TV while keeping the computer in another room, without having to be visible to everybody (let's say, if it's ugly or something).
  • It really does sound like a great idea, but the idea I believe is ahead of its time. Doing a google search of myself, I found very few WHDI compliant video cards on the market and the few I could find were in the $450-600 range. I can also imagine there being some flaws with the wireless streaming capability. It could become commonplace to see WHDI compliant video cards in the future but I think a combination of price, lack of supply, and lack of marketing make it impractical to own atm.
  • The idea is there, but not exactly the protocol or even way of streaming.
  • Just another form of picture in a picture lol.
