PCIe SSD's

edited October 2015 in Hardware
There's quite a few of these that i've seen online and was curious as to how good these actually are in practice. Many of them that i've come across are outrageously expensive and wanted to know if anyone here has one and could tell me if it's performance justifies the higher cost.

  • I'm still in mechanical HDD land, so I couldn't tell you even about SSDs.

I'd like to find a decent cheap SSD.

SSDs are much cheaper than how they were a few years ago. I believe a 128GB SSD costs slightly more than a 1TB hard drive (around $70-$80 in the US I believe). You should try it eventually, it makes everything much faster and smoother.

I know that the PCIe SSDs on Macs are in fact blazing fast, probably reaching 1000 MBps. In some of the recent computers, they even reach 2000 MBps. I expect them to be much faster than regular ones.
  • In my case $70 is expensive for anything.

I also consider $70 as expensive personally, but relatively $70 isn't that much when compared to the price of a regular hard disk.
