  • Dosbox is a Dos emulator for gaming. Granted you can do workarounds to run different OSes but I doubt you could get Windows 1 to run out of the box since the DOS kernel is based off of MS-DOS and PC-DOS 6 and last I checked you need DOS 3 or lower to run it. Just use vbox.
  • VBOX does NOT support serial mousing!
  • For Windows DR5 I'd suggest PCE, or MESS. PCEm might also work. Those emulate Microsoft serial mice as well as Mouse Systems serial mice.

I don't know why DOSBox refuses to add serial mouse emulation.
  • But how to mount a IMG in PCE?
  • I use PCEM v0.3 for Windows 1.00 DR5 and Windows 1.00 Alpha and they do work on PCEM. You need MS-DOS 2.11, Generic XT BIOS ROM to run on PCE or PCEM.

  • It's been a while since I have got Windows 1.0 to get working in DOSBOX. I had success, however; running Windows 2.03 in Dosbox just by changing SETVER in a batch file then starting WIndows 2.03
  • If I remember there is a TSR DOS driver that converts PS\2 protocol to serial. If memory serves me right it was called MouseKeys and also there is a TSR called Mouse2keys that replaces the mouse altogether with keyboard commands. Also I think with CuteMouse you can change the settings to USB to output as a serial mouse protocols.
