Roddenberrys Floppy

Say, did you folks hear about the data recovery efforts involving a pile of floppy disks that belonged to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry?
There is a picture of the machine he used here:

Supposedly it was a very "custom" machine and the disks may have used formats that were even oddball compared the the hundreds of other unique formats made in the early 80s. They talk about having to write code to decipher the data files, so it probably wasn't as simple as WordStar for CP/M. (As if Roddenberry would use a word processor named after Star Wars :P ).
