The archive for IBM PC-DOS 2.10 Jan83 manuals is corrupt.

Tried downloading 3 times. Still corrupt.

The UUID is:
F8760D63-B236-11E5-8F13-525400B25447

EDIT: Fixed. See this for more information.

  • Crap, this appears to be the same networking glitch that is affecting some of the other downloads. Still no idea what the problem is. The file seems to be fine on the servers but it is getting truncated in transit.

Did you try the other mirrors?

BTW, these PC-DOS manuals are the same ones from Bitsavers: http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/www. ... bm/pc/dos/
  • Hmm, looking closer it does seem the file is truncated on the mirror, so re-downloading from the same mirror will always result in the same thing. They seem truncated on a 512 or 256 byte boundary, and when re-pushing the file it seem if it is random chance if it is truncated or not. BTW, the SHA1 shown on the download page is only what it thinks it is, not what the resulting file actually is.

If anyone notices any other corrupt files, please report them.

Shiiiit, a quick sampling looks like a lot of the recent uploads are borked.
  • I'm currently wondering when people do upload(s) is it a requirement for them to supply a checksum file (or a string) for the upload?

If it not is it possible for them to be required to supply such a file (or a string) for the upload(s)?

Thefore as a result it will be necessary to supply the uploader with instructions on generating a checksum file on their local computer.

When you server recieves the checksum be it a file (or a string submitted on the upload form). It will also recieve the file to be uploaded and made available for download.

Following the upload (before your script considers the upload complete) have the server perform its own checksum generation.

After the checksum is generated have the checksum compared against on another if they match then the upload isn't corrupt. If they don't match then it is likely corrupt (or the wrong checksum).

If the file is corrupt have the upload error out with a message about the upload on the server being corrupt and then delete the server copy of the uploaded file.

If the file is okay then have script continue on with processing the uploaded file. Following a malware scan of the uploaded file (just to be on the safe side).

Also what kind of traffic does both this site get and the mirror?
    What is the network capacity?

Too much incomplete connections to the network(s) on either side will potentially trigger a mechanism in the operating system. The mechanism will perform a limitation on the TCP/IP transmissions being made on the system.

This can potentially cause timeout issues on ligitimate traffic.
  • I found IBM PC DOS 1.00 / 1.10 can't be downloaded correctly a few minutes ago

(.7z file seems to be corrupted when download is ended.)

    https://winworldpc.com/download/5E9403B ... 5400B25447

I downloaded them on 01-01-2016 before files are corrupted.

Now they can be downloaded correctly.

I don't know why downloaded files are corrupted ago.

Yeah. I've correctly download the manuals for PC-DOS 1.x, but the 2.x ones seemed to be borked. At least they're on Bitsavers. Perhaps the library page should be updated to point to them, at least until the problem is fixed.
  • Ok, the problem seems to be fixed. The full problem and solution can be read here:

Now that the fix (seems) to have been applied, the manuals have downloaded correctly and the 7z can be opened.
