PC-MOS terminal

edited March 2016 in Software
i have been experimenting with the pc-mos boot disks found here(even got it working from harddrive, thoug that seems to trigger the evaluation timer) i dont seem to get it to run it from serial port terminal, does anyone have an idea how to do this. or do you need to have the installation disks that i can't find anywhere on the internet.

  • If you're not on real hardware, use PCem, you filthy VirtuallBox/VMware/Virtual PC peasant! (http://pcem-emulator.co.uk/)

I highly recommend downloading the experimental version (http://citadel.rol.im/pcem101_experimental.7z). The experimental version includes the BIOS ROMs, making it easy for people who don't have a real BIOS from the era to dump (or are too lazy to use Google). It also has ISO support, more machines, and XT-IDE included.

Set the machine type to "AMI 386 clone". Set the CPU to an i386DX, at any clock speed of your choice. Make sure to choose the right BIOS date. Hopefully you can figure it out from here. If not, view the Readme file, and if you STILL can't figure it out, ask again here.

I'm talking about emulating old hardware. PCem can old BIOS code, set BIOS date, has a hefty amout of periphals it can emulate many types of systems, and is easy enough to setup. There's a heck of a lot more I haven't mentioned!

If you're needing run XP for legacy business apps, trying run Windows software on OS X, or want to tinker with Windows Vista, a virtualizer is a great option. But for running PC-MOS, trying out CP/M-86, or throwing around the buggy MS-DOS 4.00, an emulator is a far better option.
  • Yeah, I get that, but why are you saying "filthy VirtualBox, VMWare, and Virtual PC peasants"? If it's an entirely different product, then why the hell are you flaming every viable option for virtualisation?

Also, a hypervisor is the host computer running the virtual machine, not the virtual machine software or the guest.

Relax, I was just parodying the "PC Master Race".

Don't get worked up over me parodying a subreddit. I use VMware and VirtualBox frequently, and they are insanely useful.

PCem Master Race? Has a nice ring to it. :P

If you don't like me parodying a group, please PM me. Let's take it outside. ;)
  • VirtualBox can run old build like Windows 1.0 Beta, Windows 1.0 Premiere Edition, Windows/386 2.10, Windows 3.00.14 Alpha, Windows 3.00.55 Beta and also Windows 3.10 Beta. VirtualBox can run old software what the is ram in VirtualBox you can change the ram to lower number and will work. Multitasking MS-DOS 4.0 and MS-DOS 4.0 can work on VirtualBox. VirtualBox is better than VPC2004 and VPC2007.
