help with a IBM ThinkPad T41

edited April 2016 in Hardware
i need help trying to backup the Factory Partition and Access IBM. i tried the tools on Hirens.BootCD and i tried the last free version of parted magic and it didn't find the Partitions, i know its on there cause i wiped the drive with seagate DiscWizard also i tried a different hard drive and when i press the the blue ibm button all it dose is tack me to the bios instead of the ibm Access where the Factory restore is.
the Access IBM button still works and the recovery too so i'm at a lost here.
i hope i can back it up cause the drive is going out on it, i know it's on there

  • Why would you need this? Everybody and their brother just reinstalled the system from a vanilla disc or USB.

That said, this is good information on what it is and how to access it:

i need this because i love tinkering with computers and like giving my self a challenge also the fact that some of the software can't be found for this laptop anymore
also thank you for the info
  • whelp the HPA-Toolkit is nowhere to be found so i'm at a dead end here

update nvm i'm rushing things a bit had too much coffee i'm going to give Fiesta a try

update2: can any one help me get this tool to work i'm what they call a noob when it comes to linux commands, the instruction are simple on how to install it but it doesn't want to work, keeps giving me invalid command.
i cd to the folder but ya that about how far i have gotten with this
i am using lubuntu 12.04 cause of the cpu pae thing
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/fiesta/
  • i'm going to have to give up on this for now my brains fried, though i did learn some new things with linux witch is cool.
owell on to the next thing.

also i need to give the drive a break cause the errors it give off, when running disk check some spots on the drive time out and give ECC errors so ya from what i've read ECC error is a bad thing
  • There may be a bad sector on the disc that's causing it to not work correctly if you're getting errors. Just replace the hard drive and load XP from a vanilla disc and use the key on the bottom. Either way, I don't see the point of even working on this computer. It's an old Pentium M and it probably won't last that much longer.
