Windows 98 is being wierd

Hello all,

After reformating a new IDE harddrive, I booted off of a Win98 Install floppy and started the install. However, I got an error reading "Windows Setup requires 734X032 by" and a bunch of ASCII symbols across the screen.
Here's a screenshot:

Any help would be great, I'm installing this on my VooDoo PC, however I'm using my PS/1 SVGA monitor ATM.

Thank you,

PS: Fixing the image size now, sorry

  • UPDATE: I removed my ATi 3D Rage II+DVD card and switched to my main monitor. However, I am still getting a similar message, however this time without the scrambled text.

  • Have you tried reformatting the drive?

A quick bit of googling brought up this thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ ... available/

The solution seemed to be a reformat.

    Is it 98FE or SE?
  • Very likely bad RAM, either one of the sticks or a slot. Alternatively, bad GPU or bad storage.

As it turns out, the issue was my C: drive being a bit screwy. I remade the partition table and formatted it. That seems to have worked.

    Thanks,
