Any good alternative to wicd?

Hello everybody, I'm currently trying to gain some confidence into finding a new and or better alternative to wicd network manager. The reason I am asking is that it has gotten to the point that the manager barley works at all, and dumps my connection at random times for no apparent reason.

It might be your wireless connection.

NetworkManager works fine for me. (Unfortunately, command-line WiFi tooling on Linux is... crap.)

It may be my wifi connection. Either way my families Internet connection is, well, shit, although my siblings have a seamless connection when using their M$ Windows 10. it has just gotten to the point that I am willing to purge wicd out of my system for a better and more decent alternative. (If one does exist). My system is Debian 8.4 with icewm as my default window manager. Runnig off of Intel i3 core, and a 270 GB hard drive.
