Windows Media Guide - Closing June 30?
For Internet Radio, I usually go to the Windows Media Guide (link down below). It's free, has many stations, requires no account, and the ads are tolerable. However, when I tuned into one of my favorite stations, I heard that "...Windows Media Guide internet radio portal is closing forever! This will happen June 30th. To continue listening..." so on. It was one group of channels under the same brand (Big R Radio), and then another (AceRadio.net). I took notice that both of these stations are funded by StreamLicensing.com/. The windows media logo that would be clicked to get an experience similar to that of the media guide are the same, and the format is practically the same but with different logos and stations. I've looked up "Windows Media Guide Closing", "Windows Media Guide Closing June 30", (so on) on the internet, and found nothing. In fact, if you go to the Windows Media Player site, there's still an option to go to the Media Guide, and there isn't even a notice saying that the service will be down after the 30th. There are signs, though, such as the side-page ad changing from an actual advert to a MS logo.
Now, here's the question being asked: Is the Windows Media Guide closing on June 30th 2016? (I hope not)

Not surprised an another offshoot online service going down the toilet though. Some people think such and such service is going to be around forever, then one day they pull the plug.
2. I have pretty much confirmed that it is closing. I'll have a google search link for "Windows Media Guide June 30". It has many links (now, of course) for forums and discussions on its closing. Many of them have to do with people hosting internet radio and recieving an email saying that they're partnership with MS is ending because of the shutdown.

Honestly, when I go onto archive.org and look at the site's history, I see it existing from 1998. You are right when you say that we think that some service will stick around, and then it's shut down. Then again, of course, it was just a website that was archived by archive.org. Technically, it will still be online (on an archive) so long as that site is kept on there. However, going onto archive.org is impractical, and from this point on, I'll probably either use the iTunes radio thing (if that still exists) or go to the sites themselves.
From what I can see, this site is a historic one and I'm personally sad to see it go without so much as an official announcement that at least a few news agencies report. At least, again, it still exists on archive.org.

UPDATE ON THE WMG ARCHIVE LINK: Post-closing, the files that the "listen" button points to in order to begin streaming will begin to be removed by the providers. However, the sites themselves can be visited via the "visit" button if you'd like to use the link as a listing for sites.
