  • MS-DOS 7.0, 7.1, and 8.0 were never actual official products. At a technical level these are included as parts of Windows 95 RTM, Windows 95 OSR2.x/98, and Windows ME respectively.

Furthermore the "MS-DOS 8" component included in Windows ME is heavily crippled and contains zero advantages over the "MS-DOS 7.1" component. As a result nobody bothers trying to seperate out 8.0.

We do have Windows 9x/ME boot disks here: https://winworldpc.com/product/microsof ... ot-disk/me although they do not contain all the DOS utilities.

There is an unofficial (this is not a Microsoft product) "MS-DOS 7.1 China Dos Union" compilation here: https://winworldpc.com/product/ms-dos/7x
Members of the community have found this useful as it includes DOS utilities, various extras, and a friendly setup program.

I actually use this version of MS-DOS quite often, as it is usually very well supported on newer systems, such as P4 and P3 era machines. I've even tried it on an AMD Phenom 9750 system (I didn't have any other systems at the time) and it ran very well, even being able to stably run Win3.11. The only system that I have been forced to run DOS6 on is my IBMPS/1 due to it looking for the version to run its proprietary programs.
  • The PS/1 was 286-based, wasn't it? "MS-DOS 7" needs a 386. (But *PC DOS* 7 and 7.1, from IBM, are still 8088-compatible—or at least I know for a fact that 7.0 is.)

My model actually has a soldered on intel i486SX 25, and I've added an intel i486DX 33 (clocked at 25MHz) in the upgrade socket.
  • MS-DOS 8.0 is Not official DOS by Microsoft.
It was released as Pirated or unofficial DOS.

So there is no meaning to request unoffical DOS 8.0 in here.
  • While there is no official MS-DOS 7 or 8, there does exist an official PC-DOS 7.0 & 7.01(2000) though. I have those disk images.
  • MS-DOS 8.00 exists as part of Windows ME. The boot disks created by Windows XP etc, contain DOS 8.00, even though the DOS emulation is DOS 5.00. XCOPY uses unicode, which means it does not work without windows loaded. However, the 7.1 version can be fixed to that end. www.Multiboot.ru is the goto source for this.

It even has my help file in it.

  • Hello JosephJHill,

I know it's been a couple years but there does exist exactly what you're looking for on the multiboot.ru site as far as an UNOFFICIAL MS-DOS 8.0 installer ISO:

    http://www.multiboot.ru/msdos8.htm

    Specifically the download:

    http://www.liveinternet.ru/click?www.multiboot.ru/download/MSDOS8.ISO

The guy who put that together basically took the latest core files, patched them due to the issue with WinME and then some MS-DOS utilities that appeared on later versions of Windows (up to Windows 7 believe it or not). The list of files the ISO contains are included at the first URL I gave near the bottom of the page.

I'm going to spin up a Virtualbox VM with that tonight and see how it works out.

This site cannot host that ISO because it's not a genuine distribution, so that makes sense. It's basically cobbled together with a patch for the WinME MS-DOS 8.0 core files so don't get your expectation too high. It is what it is.

    Steve
