You need to make an account, then a an account "root" this folder will be where all the users files will be. So when the login, the FTP server will point to that folder
I have made an account "WinW". It's not listed in the files I sent in the previous message. How do I create a root?
And you might want to change your port to something not 21. Some ISP's filter it so you cant run servers o that port.
The help file should help
Should I change it to root?

Now make a folder such at "winworld" on C:\ or whatever, then make that your home folder.
I made it Homey and directed it to use that.
I put one file in it, nothing important.
I think I'm done and ready to roll

I've e-mailed him to try xx.xx.xxx.xx/WinW
I don't know when he'll try again.
I didn't change the port but I had a small html server on this thing once and it worked OK on port 21.
Maybe they changed the rules.
Oh well.

then login
You knew I would. Try not to fuss now, how do you expect me to learn?
Here's the part with Homey. Don't look Ethyl.
Don't look Q.

Can you think what we should check?

I've never used WS_FTP Svr, so I'll let IBM deal with this.

Thump, are you trying to run an FTP server? this is where you login and all can do is upload and download files.
Or an HTTP server where you host a website? Sorry, but Im not really familiar with your computer skills.
Anywho, I never dealed with it either.
Some thing you might want to do is forward the port you using on your router, dont use port 21, use like 22 becuase some ISP's filter that port. And in the server program, you might have to click something to "Start" the server and get it online.
I was trying to install a FTP server. I have a simple webpage server
called My Web Server.
I'm not really familiar with my computer skills either but I feel I'm
gaining. Already I've learned a lot.
The instructions that came with WS_FTP Server are well over 100 pages
and are damn PDF. It's hard to pick out any useful information from all
the self aggrandizing. I read all the posts here and I've chosen the
wrong web server. I believe I'll try to get Abyss. FishNET3000
recomends it and I want one that works well with Internet
Explorer. {just kidding about that}
WS_FTP is what I was using that couldn't connect to fishnet and I got the
server at the same place.
I've tried Apache a few times but never got it to work.
Is there anything that's even simpler than Abyss?
I might try to change ports though even though My Web Server
worked OK on it. I hate to leave a leaf unturned.
Thump
And Aapache is alot harder than Abyss, you gotta configure it with a text file. I got it to work, but took me awhile. I just recemend Abyss for times sake
people could put stuff up on. Oh well, it's good experience for me.
I've downloaded the 30 day trial of Bullet Proof FTP but will wait until
tomorrow to try to set it up. It's got to be better than WS_FTP Server.

For HTTP, I am using: Apache/1.3.31 (Win32) mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.3.4
Abyss is FAR easier and smaller, Apache is more professional, makes the forum load faster, and takes like... TONS of RAM... it likes to use about 85MB... Abyss likes 800K.
It referred to C:\FTPROOT so I created one and also added C:\Homey which doesn't count on any limitations. I read some of the manual and I think I've got it set right and it's running now.
Any more suggestions?

I have changed the port back to 21. If that doesn't work I'll try 22.
I've been fiddlin' with it and I believe it's ready.
If you want to try and let me know it's
68.59.155.13 and if I got it right from IBMWarpster it would be:
ftp://68.59.155.13:port
Thanks
