Adobe Photoshop 3.00
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there currently is not a 3.00 revision on WinWorld?
I've got archives of 3.00 here now, completely different layout from 3.04/3.05.
[Source Media Descriptions]
"1", "Adobe Photoshop - Disk 1", "msvcrt10.dl_", "..\disk1"
"2", "Adobe Photoshop - Disk 2", "photoshp.e1_", "..\disk2"
"4", "Adobe Photoshop - Disk 4", "photoshp.hl_", "..\disk4"
"5", "Adobe Photoshop - Disk 5", "testpict.jp_", "..\disk5"
"3", "Adobe Photoshop - Disk 3", "postcard.ps_", "..\disk3"
Disks 1 & 2 seem to be comprised mostly of Win32s files, and 3, 4, 5 seem more "Adobe-like".
Completely different layout from 3.04 (as I recall).

All I knew for sure is that what I had now was earlier than, and had a different layout from, what I'd seen in the past.
The first, or earlier beta that WW has matches what I have.
So "back in the day", some zit squeezer hoping to score some scene points uploaded what they claimed was a final or rtm version. Heck, maybe they actually thought it was "final" - who knows.
Ny bad, sorry for the false hope.
PS: I am somewhat confused by the labeling of the WW archives - is that the actual beta version numbering on the 3.x releases? And is there really a 3.4 version versus a 3.0.4?
No biggie.
Yeah, that site is something else. They popped the champagne corks because their archives now are approaching or at 40 Tb. Hell, I may have that much, and it isn't from pulling down the entire "nightly builds" of Microsoft stuff.
Whatever. Those peeps are in their own la-la land.
Any "3.4" is also just a mislabeled 3.0.4.
BTW, while I update the "download name", many of the actual file names may still be incorrect.
Adobe Photoshop 3.0 was released to the public November 1994.
The intial shipment of 3.0 CDs - the beta expiration code was still in the binaries. Adobe within days released a simple patch making the MAC & Win versions 3.0.1.
""This update fixes a problem with an expiration time constraint in
Photoshop 3.0, preventing the application from being used prior to
January 1, 1994 or after December 31, 1994.""
The floppy set I have, the newest file date is August 26, 1994, putting it way behind typical diffs of file dates & release dates.
OK, I know you guys that run WW giot better things to do, but I was rooting around and....
What got me to start this thread was I found an original "scene release" for "Adobe Photoshop 3.0 RELEASE - PWA".
Research says its the same binaries as WW has - but WW has it listed as a "beta".
Today, I'm digging around and find another "scene release" to correct the PWA one. Seems the PWA release would "fail to install".
Now here's the deal: Anybody that was around "the scene" knows at that time, if a famous group like PWA pulled a boner, the rest of "the scene" would pile on very publicly. But they didn't pile on about it not being final - only that the installer was flaky and it would time out.
Now, that may be a half-assed way to decide something, but the people in the warez scene were ruthless when it comes to verifying releases.
And this is why label scans are important.
Unless there is some specific documented information about how the release version identified itself, I think it is fair to continue to identify it as a beta.
I think the only real way to nail this down is to find a genuine "3.00" floppy disk set and kryoflux it. But from the sound of it, a genuine "3.00" disk would be very rare.
i can post a pic later today. Cant for the life of me appraise this stuff when the most info I have found so far is this thread.
