Is there serious softwares made with visual basic for MS-DOS

edited March 2017 in Software
Visual basic has a version for MS-DOS, with a form designer, mouse support, and is one of the easiest ways to build TUI based form applications for MS-DOS, but so far, the only application that i have seen made with this was Litox Disk System, an open source freedos boot disk with some utilities.

Was that era's software compannies using this RAD to develop MS-DOS applications?, what others vintage softwares made with visual basic for MS-DOS do you know ?

  • That is a very good question. Keep in mind that VB DOS was the direct replacement for Microsoft BASIC Professional Development System and their earlier BASIC compilers.

Certainly there were many custom applications designed with it, but those were mostly the sort of thing you would never see outside of the companies they were created for. I don't know about commercial applications.
  • Microsoft Works 3 appears to be made with VB1. The UI that uses just looks identical to the IDE.
  • Late DOS software from MS like Word 5.5, VB1, the Exchange client, etc. all use the CUA-implementing TUI. Doesn't mean they're VB.
