Investigator, I need you to identify this....

edited March 2017 in Hardware
So back when I first joined this forum, in the year 2014, I had recently bought a Zenith ZWL-183-92 which had it's battery explode, when I posted about it, I remember some of you saying "for the love of god, take that battery out before it can cause any more damage".

I'm talking about this thread: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6814

The hard drive doesn't start when only on AC power, but the floppy drive works, and can boot from that. It seems to be in perfect working order except for this one issue.

Online tonight elsewhere, I have found that it requires the battery to work properly, a really weird design.

Of course, I can't seem to find a replacement battery, but I have an idea, just buy a power supply and connect it with the proper cable, however I don't know the name of the cable it used, it seems like it was IDE but it has 3 pins, two of them round, and one which looks square.

I am providing you with one picture of the battery bay, and one of where the battery connected to, because this is something I need identified, before I can remedy the situation after three f**ing years.

Alternatively, does anyone know a way to bypass the battery?

  • Hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a standard 3-pin connector similar to this:

I mean make sure the measurements match and you buy the matching pins if that's the case.
What's the voltage of the battery?
  • This thing is likely 12 volts.
    Battery model: ZA-180-45, related: ZA-180-40 ?
Says the bottom of these laptops.

If you figure out the pins, you could strap a sealed lead acid for temp until you find an alternative.
Or a bunch of rechargeable aa's.

    EDIT:

    Or this might work:

Thank you, I should be able to get this sometime next month, which is soon enough.
