Odd pre-release of OS/2 2.0 found

edited April 2017 in Software
Just thought I would share this here, over at os2museum. they claim to have dug up a known but long MIA pre-release of OS/2 2.0 that was the last build with the Presentation Manager user interface.

I'm not aware that they make their stuff available for download anywhere, but they have some nice screen shots.

Yep, and for some reason this news even made it to Slashdot...
  • If you can see my post there (I posted there under the user name "RetroCPU"), the reply that I received was that the original contributor specifically asked for the site administrator Michal Necasek not to share it with anyone. Which is unfortunate, given how hard it is to find such releases like that. Believe me, a lot of people are like that these days (NOT referring to Michal Necasek himself but rather the user who sent it to him) in that they don't want to share their collections with anyone at all.

I personally thought that it was strange and unusual for Michal Necasek not to be sharing it publically, considering that he has made several other items available in the past. Well, that was why. If it had actually been Michal Necasek himself who found the original disks, then he would have likely been far more generous with such requests. The person who sent him the disk images also most likely would not be able to claim ownership either, since the product is clearly stated as being property of IBM and Microsoft.
  • Every version of DOS states that, though. And isn't it par for the course for the site owner not to share disk images?
  • The onwer of OS/2 2.0 pre-release Mats Pettersson said he was working for IBM with OS/2 developer relations.

I don't think he share it as floppy disk image.
But it is very rare information.

It's not the site owner who decided to keep it to himself, but rather the person who sent it to him. The site owner really isn't the type of person who would keep things to himself, so if it had been his own copy, then he would have likely shared it by now, or at the very least sent me a copy of it.

Do you happen to have a way to contact him, such as an email address or anything like that?
  • @SoftPCMuseum

No, I didn't contact to him to ask to dump disk.

P.S. off topic : I asked to owner of IBM Xenix 1.0 on os2museum ago.

I think that you misunderstood my question. I wasn't asking whether you actually contacted him to send you the disk images. What I was asking was whether you had a way to contact him, such as an email address that I could write to.
  • @SoftPCMuseum

I didn't contract to him at all and not about to do contact to him.

And what was the answer? (Sorry for the offtopic. I asked Tenox the same thing... no answer, though :) )
  • @vbdasc

There is no answer for me.
I didn't expect to do so much.

P.S. Don't quote whole sentence to me if possible.
