Iomega 100mb External Paralell Zip Drive

edited April 2017 in Hardware
Last week, I bought myself a zip drive for $5.00 at a Thrift store, it's the 100mb parallel version.

Unfortunately, it didn't have the power adapter, but that's not too bad, as I have a unviersal. I am however having trouble finding the proper voltage.

Also, are there drivers required, where could I find them?

  • Interesting, I also acquired a parallel port zip drive a while back with no cables but have not had time to mess with it. On the bottom, it says it uses 5 volts, but does not say how the plug should be polarized. Actually, not sure if that means AC or DC.

I would also be interested to know what kind of cable is supposed to connect from the parallel port to the zip drive. I would guess a straight through cable.

As for drivers, there was some discussion about those on the Vintage Computing forum a while back http://www.vcfed.org/forum . They are floating around out there somewhere, but they are known to require a CPU later than the 8088/8086 and someone was selling a special "palm zip" driver for those use with those machines.

Thanks, shouldn't be a problem for me. I'm only using a 486 and higher.

    Hallo,

I have put the ZIP 100 drivers for MS-DOS, Windows 3, 95, 98 and XP on my website.
    Go to: http://swtcomp.com/software/iomega/iomega.htm

The power source is 5 Volt DC and 1 Ampere.
    Inside = +. Outside ( sleeve ) = -.

    Have fun.

    Greetings from The Netherlands,
    Henk Siewert
  • Be careful when picking up the extension cable. Some of them don't pass all 25 pins but instead terminate some of the printer ground connections that the Zip drives uses.
  • Specs from my Zip 100 parallel wall wart:
    Input: 120V 60Hz 13W
    Output: DC 5V 1A
    Model No: RWP480505-1
