Reinstalling MSN and Netware on Windows 95 OSR2.5

edited April 2017 in Software
So, today the ethernet and data/fax 56k modem I bought finally came in, I have it installed, and it works.

However during the installation process on my thinkpad 380XD, i must have clicked the wrong thing because now during every boot windows tells me that files referenced by system.ini are missing, and to reinstall programs, it specifically cites Netware and MSN.

Is there anyway to reinstall from the Windows 95 OSR2.5 Disc itself? What should I do to fix this?

  • If I remember correctly, this is that problem where the computer can't read the CD-ROM drive after the reboot during setup so it doesn't finish exactly right. Use a boot diskette with your CD-ROM drivers. Format the drive, copy the WIN95 directory from the CD to the hard disk and start setup on the CD.
  • Windows 95 was already installed a long time ago, this happened when I was setting up the modem PCMCIA card.
  • Hmm... strange. Never saw that kind of error unless the original setup went screwball. A new reinstall might do it some good anyway. Not very familiar with PCMCIA, but don't most things that connect like that have a kind of generic driver (per device type) Windows 95 can just set up itself? If so, reinstall Win95 to clear whatever crud the current install has, and to let the system set itself up properly.
