My deskpro EN has finally arrived.

I tested it to ensur eit works and it does, I aired out the inside with my air compressor in the garage and it wasn't even dusty to begin with, just a light surface layer of dust, which my comrpessor wasn't powerful enough to remove, so I will have to buy me a can of compressed air and use that later on. No rush, it s in decent shape inside.

I just formatted the hard disk, so now I will be installing MS-DOS 6.22 and later Windows 98 first edition. I will look at what specific ati rage 3d card it has, to get the driver for it, and I will install my sound blaster 16 as sound.

I will also research the serial number to see what model this is, and try to find other drivers.

Looks like a decent setup. What are it's specs, and what do you plan for it to have once you're done adding to it?

DOS games, old apps, music.

stuff like office 97, DOOM, Duke 3d, etc...

Also gonna use it for playing my 90's CDs (which are mostly all Marilyn Manson ablums, lol).

oh and good old dial-up internet!

Cool machine you got there, being a P2/3 era Compaq it should be great for running MS-DOS 6.22/7.1, Windows 95 or 98, or even Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, has a good amount of upgrade potential, especially if you decide to upgrade the CPU to a Pentium III (assuming it's Slot 1) or even install a good AGP or PCI video card.

As far as finding drivers go: I've found a VOGONS forum post on that subject that should be helpful.

Does it have any ISA slots? If not, I can post a list of recommended PCI sound cards for DOS gaming if you want.

yes it has, I installed my sound blaster 16 which should be good for DOS games.

Nothing all that unique - I hope you didn't spend too much on it because a lot of time people will spend way more on these old machines than they're actually worth. I guess it's fun for messing around with old games and software.
