[OFFER] Disney Animation Studio for DOS

edited July 2017 in Offers & Requests
Hello every one, I'm offering a the complete 4 disks of Disney Animation Studio (DAS) for MS-DOS. I have these in my possession since 2012, and have been meaning to offer them to this site, but I haven't found the time. These, I believe are very rare. I have 4 of the original disks all ready dumped into img files. My dump utility was dd, on Debian 8.

Some information about this software:
It was featured on the Computer Chronicles TV show, although the show shows the Amiga version.
This has some pre-made animation demos that originally came with the software. It supports multiple screens/resolutions and 16 Colors VGA is default.
I think it ran in direct competition with Deluxe Paint.

I do not happen to have a manual for this, since I found this at the local dump several years ago. But there is some for amiga out there... Unfortunately there is some sort of entry that requires you to have the manual present. Almost like a password system, but instead you select from a bunch of different pictures of Micky mouse and there is a hint that describes it in the manual...

Any way let me know if any one is interested...

  • Nice. I also have this program released in 1992 with 4ea of 3.5" 720KB and 2ea of 5.25" 1.2MB disks.
  • I am interested. Please could you make the disk images using WinImage and also provide good quality scans (1200-2400 dpi) of the installation disks either in TIFF or PNG format? Zip all the files and put them for download.
  • I'd be interested in seeing this.

It looks like the amiga version is the rare one, as I have no trouble finding ibm versions:

And if someone wants to get ripped off and only purchase the manual,

  • The insteresting thing is that Sealed package is more cheap than others.

  • Wow, I didn't realize how much response this application would get. I don't have a scanner but I do have a 18 Megapixel Camera  , so the quality will be great. I'm going to zip them up, and hopefully upload them today.

EDIT: Uploaded today, now its in the decision room of whether its published or not. Its up to the librarian now.

    THIS IS CORRECT.
I found some installation disks for DAS on Vetusware. The app installed easily to PCem12 (486 setup).
Unfortunately, when started, the program asks for the correct picture from the User's Guide.
The documentation that came with the disks was for an Amiga and was text only.
The program won't run until you pick the correct picture!!
So for the program to be useable, a scan of the original User's Guide or a hack is required.
  • Its doc check is very lame. If you simply start the program and select the default image a few dozen times it will eventually hit one where the default is the correct answer, and let you in.

With enough patience, one could easily reconstruct the manual information through trial and error.

But a manual scan would still be very helpful. It has many advanced features that only a manual can really explain.

That is exactly how I got to run. Scroll through the pictures and choose a random image from the selection and hope that it matches. Never once thought to actually pay attention to it, and make note of what is what. Also I agree with the doc check. I have never really understood the point of it, maybe as a security feature? I don't know...

    Thanks for uploading.
Yes, your 3.5" disks are verified. (identical with mine)

I think manual protection (doc check) can be removed by Neverlock.
