I've got an OmniBook 300 that runs Windows 3.1, and it would be nice to have something like One Note on it. In other words, a notebook with quick full-text searching. Anybody know if there exists such a program for 3.1?
If your needs are more limited, consider
Windows Cardfile: survivor from the Windows 1 days. Add a new card for every note. Will search entire stack. Can have several hundred cards without getting slow.
Since Cardfile was one of the code samples in the Windows SDK, there was a whole category of enhanced Cardfile programs.
Winpost: Similar to cardfile but multiple card sizes can be used and includes an alarm clock feature.
Desktop Calendars with notes: Many, some of which were licensed from hDC's Desktop
A survivor from that time: Okna Desktop Set http://okna.com/overview/folders.html
The Windows 3 version was similar though designed around 640 x 480 and the buttons were absurdly large.
Not quite as free form as others in the addition of notes.
Those all look like pretty decent PIMs, though most of them (with the exception of a couple like ECCO) look more focused on scheduling and some structured data management. I'm mostly looking for something that's just for note taking, with a quick search feature. Imagine something like a version of Windows Write with sections/pages, and the ability to do very fast full-text searches across the whole notebook file, and you're not too far off.
A lot of those are "rigid" PIMs, which coming from OneNote, may be undesirable. Outliners fit the freeform nature, but may not have enough structure like OneNote. (It's a fairly unique blend.)
The website is poorly designed. To download complete ZIP, need to click on the listing and then in the detail page click the file name in the grey banner. I am too lazy to track down a better website.
