Windows 3.1, Sound Blaster 16 drivers, on a 286.

edited August 2017 in Software
after i attempt to install my sound blaster drivers through the control pannel's drivers section, I get a message saying that CONTROL has caused an error.

When I exit Windows, I get "Standard Mode: Invalid DPMI return from 0DBF:0182".

These drivers installed perfectly on other systems with Windows 3.1.. so I don't know what the problem is.

I *think* it's asking for a protected memory mode that a 286 CPU doesn't support.
  • Protected Mode is very flaky on anything older than an 80386-class CPU. Try an older SB driver.
