Mac OS 8.6 ISO is corrupt

The ISO was improperly ripped, grabbing only the HFS partition, and not including the APM partition map.

FWIW, file should be able to detect a "pure" Mac ISO. Unfortunately, it isn't aware of hybrids, but those should "just work," and are archived easily due to Apple being smart about how APM/HFS are included in hybrid images.

Here's what a "pure" Mac image vs. a hybrid image say:

    Confirmed, and changed the download name to reflect that. Unfortunately a lot of the Mac CDs were archived using Apple DiskCopy or similar, which stores them as the equivalent of a hard disk volume. These can be mounted as such in an emulator, and in some cases ImgBurn will still manage to write them to a CD that may be recognizable in a real mac.

    Yeah, they mount, but they won't boot without the APM bits.
