I think that label scans should be a requirement for any software contributed from original media. But then we would have to deal with dust/dirt on scans, low DPI, and other things.

True, but it's still better than nothing. You can really only do so much. I try to scan everything I can to include in contributions. I'll scan the CD, manual and box where possible. Even if it's low DPI, it's better than no information.
