BSOD during Windows 10 update process

edited November 2017 in Software

Hello everyone.

I was recently trying to update a computer on the Win10 November Update to the latest Fall Creators update. However, I've gotten stuck on a problem: During the update process, the computer BSOD's with an error message of "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL." Following that, the computer restarts back into the November Update. I have disconnected all peripherals (this is a laptop) and used the Media Creation Tool instead of the Win10 Update Assistant, all to no avail.

What should I do?

  • Then an internal device has a driver not working with the Windows 10.

How would I troubleshoot this to figure out what driver is causing the problem? All the devices work fine (camera, touch screen, USB ports, trackpad, etc.)

  • Have you checked the compatibility list?
Loaded drivers from the MFGs site?
    Used new install media?
    Tried Windows 7?

    Yes. The PC is fine.

Loaded drivers from the MFGs site?

    explain what that is please

    Used new install media?

    Yes. Same issue.

    Tried Windows 7?

Not possible. This is one of those new "UEFI-only" machines with no BIOS CSM module, so no Windows 7. BTW, Windows 7 is incompatible with most modern Windows 8-era UEFI implementations.

  • Loaded manufacturer's drivers.
    And really, not Win7 compatible?
I believe you Erito17, but still , really MS?

Yes, I was already using the manufacturer drivers.

Looks like MS will do anything to keep their users on Windows 10.
