Bad memory?
when i tried to install Windows 98 SE on my HP 740N i got an MS-DOS extender error. When I researched the problem, I was told to use MemTest86+, but since there is no instructions for using that, I couldn't do anything. Could a bad memory module cause both Windows 98 SE and Windows XP SP2 installers to fail?

Using Memtest is very easy and I'm quite sure there's more than a few how-tos available if you search for it. But basically it's pretty much as simple as burn it to a CD and boot to that CD. It starts running the tests and you leave it sit there for a while until it's finished running through all of its tests. If you see red, you know something is wrong.
