IBM PC-DOS was an IBM branded version of MS-DOS licensed from Microsoft for use on the IBM PC system. Versions of PC-DOS paralleled that of MS-DOS up until version 6.1, where PC-DOS was independently maintained by IBM up until 7.1, the last version. Although not the only OS available for the IBM PC when it came out, it quickly became popular due to its low cost in comparison to the others. Its direct competitors on the PC at the time were CP/M-86 and UCSD p-System. The major differences between PC-DOS and MS-DOS were only in terms of driver support and built in programs until version 6.1 where development diverged.

  • There was also PC-DOS 5.00.1 (dated February, 1992). Oddly it's not available here or on similar abandonware resources.
  • Why can't someone else dump it?
  • UPDATE: @os2fan2 uploaded a copy of 5.00.1 (CSD UR36603) to BetaArchive. DPlex64 (aka Windowsbegood on BetaArchive) is offering that copy here.
  • In the run of DOS 5 to DOS 5.02, IBM made four different versions of QBASIC. The first uses rom basic. The second is the PS/1 version, used in OS/2. The third is in 5.00.1 and 5.02, and the fourth is in the CSD package.
  • I saw "IBM PC-DOS 5.02 (5.25-360k)" is uploaded.
Unfortunately Disk 6 (QBASIC) is still missing.
Except of it, all disks are verified. (same SHA1 with mine)
  • Are you sure there was a disk 6? The installation only asks for disks 1-5. If there was an additional disk labeled differently, I could see how it might get separated. The reference photos from eBay that I have only show five disks.

    @SomeGuy

I bought IBM PC DOS 5.02 (5.25") as junk diskettes in 2012 and dumped it.
(Unfortunately Disk 6 was not included.)
Maybe that seems to be OEM version of IBM PC DOS 5.02
Your uploaded version is also OEM version.
(According to PACKING.LST, there is no file list about Quick BASIC.)

I also saw Disk 6 (6/6) of same version existed on eBay a few years ago.

    (Disk 1/5, Disk 2/5, Disk 3/5, Disk 4/5, Disk5/5, Disk 6/6)

Of course Disk 6 is for Quick BASIC.

Also same version as 5.25" upgrade version existed with 6 disks on eBay before I registed
    on WinWorld.
    (Unfortunately, I didn't win.)
But anyway, retail version (Normal or Upgrade) should include 6 disks.

*Quick BASIC is included on 5.25" Disk 4 of version 5.00 and 5.00.1 or
    on 3.5" Disk 2 of version 5.00, 5.00.1 and 5.02.

I attached the image for IBM PC DOS 5.02 (Retail)

    1) Service Expiration Date : Sep.30, 1993
    2) Printed in the United Stated of America

I'm always carefull not to buy it as OEM or Made in Taiwan.

  • For now I have added a note to that download page.
  • I’ve got a sealed copy of this in both 3.5 and 5.25 versions. I’ll open it now and see how many disks there are.

  • I don’t even have to open it. It says right on the box that there are 6 disks.
  • I had this from back in the '90's. The package definitely only had 5 disks.

Not sure why, as I am totally blind and didn't have anyone read what was on the box or anything. Also, I didn't know there may have been either a different OEM version, or anything like that. I was somewhat disappointed to find it didn't have QBasic or Edit either.
  • At least I remember that IBM PC DOS 5.02 upgrade version (5.25") consists 6ea of disk.
    That is certain.
(But I didn't win on auction.)
  • Found this: (ITS2DOS.BOO = IBM DOS Technical Solutions).

  • Nice hunting! So it basically is an OEM version, although not all OEMs necessarily may have been like that.
