If I may: I downloaded Kai's Photo Soap and MediaStudio. Both show PowerIso as the authoring tool, and an ISO creation date of August 2023, which is not proper.

PowerISO will inject it's own signature in the header of the image, and alter the actual creation date of the newly made ISO - if you use the "save as" function instead of just "save".

WinImage and UltraISO can both make a proper image for most non-protected CDs.

You cannot go wrong in my opinion, using WinImage. It will do an exact, byte for byte image, preserving authoring info, timestamp, as well as not adding padding bytes.

    Give WinImage a try.
  • I used "WinImage" to create disk images. When I navigate through the menus, I find something about "ISO", but how I could create images of CD-ROMs ... that is not apparent to me.

It seems to me that "UltraISO" sets the current date, as do a number of other programs I have looked at.

The Linux/Ubuntu archive management even sets the year 2036.

For the image of "Discovery '99" I used accidentally another program by CeQuadrat, but that no longer runs.

I don't make the programs, I just use them. Since I actually only have to deal with ISO images in the context of working with VMs, or now with a mini-PC its built-in CD-ROM drive is responsive but somehow still doesn't read any data from inserted CD-ROMs, I couldn't care less about the date. It has to work!
  • Print Artist and Print Master are normally packed anyway.

It's packed as non-ISO now. If someone has something to complain about, I can't change it. I discarded this CD a long time ago.

    I forgot the 7z for MediaStudio ...

    1. WinImage is incredibly easy to use to read and save an image of an actual CD.

    2. I understand that for you as long as it works who cares. I feel the sme way, and packaged and couriered literally hundreds if not thousands of apps on Usenet this way.

But this is not Usenet, or a warez forum. The goal here on WinWorld is to preserve as much original information as possible , making it availale for future generations. In addition, by agreeing on /how/ to preserve, we can find and note small changes between various published releases.

    3. If you do not have the original CD, then it is pointless to discuss what software tool was originally used.
