LAN internet connection with Windows 3.1X (Not WFW)

edited March 2004 in Software
Couldnt you get Windows 3.1X online this way...... Use MS Network Client for Workgroups, then bind TCP/IP with that. Then, go into Windows 3.1X setup and select "MS LAN Manger 2.2" under the "network" drop down menu. Then just tell your programs to connect via LAN...

Seems like itll work but........ what do you think?

  • Sounds like it! Theres only one way to find out!
  • It sounds OK (I'm no Windows 3.xx expert). I'd try it and post the results. If that does work, then WIndows 3.xx will be able to use broadband Inets :D.

  • Maby I could try it with VPC.

use MS Cliuent for Workgroups. Its on the NT4 erver CD under Clients.
  • You've got to be careful around VPC, it's a good idea, but there's alot to be said for a real 486.

Whew, this laptop is a mess, I'll have to work on it before I can try that.

  • I got it to work once, I had DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1 and MS-Client for workgroups 3.0 installed. Just set win3.1 to use LanManager 2.1 and it should work fine.
  • Cool. thought it would work fine.
