I've Gotta Client

  • We had a lot of trouble today trying to rar floppys and send them
by e-mail and it didn't work. They ended up corrupted. He finally
downloaded the program and installed it and made new floppys.
Anyway we've created more partitions but he had uninstalled his
Norton without making the ghost floppy so he'll have to make
the disk image later. We created another primary partition and he's
installing XP now. He called just a few minutes ago and said "It's
got a window up and it says 'create a new partition here'" and I
said tell it to leave it alone.
He said "Leave the file system intact" or something and I said
Yeah that's it. I have high hopes it'll install adequate drivers
'cause I just found out it's a Dell Latitude. He's got a dual boot
but doesn't have a way yet to change it without running both
Partition Magic floppys. He really doesn't care about keeping the
Windows 2000 now but I thought it was safer.

I talked to him again a little while ago and it's
up and running. Everythings fine except he
can't get on the net. He's got a router so both
his machines can get on the net and he thinks
he's got the driver disk there somewhere but
he's quit for today. He's very happy with it.
  • Glad you were at least able to get that far!

Tell him to try to go to http://support.dell.com on another machine and look for the driver. Or if you knew the model, you could look it up beforehand.

    Thanks SurfinSHELL23.
I know I have the link if it comes to that. But I think he needs to
install some driver he has. He has two disks and said he didn't
know which one it was. I said try one and if it don't work it's the
other one. We tried to cocoon the Windows 2000 in it's own
partition. He really doesn't want to go back there anymore.
I told him to boot to it again and raid anything like Office that he
might want. He's amazed how fast everything works now without
what ever the company's {HP,CompaQ,etc.} put on there.
He doesn't have much time to spend but he's really getting
interested now that he can see what is possible.

  • OK, sucess I guess. My client has it enough under control that he's let me go. He's got XP up and running now and finally got the wireless NIC to work. He said he didn't know what he did for sure but he had to delete a bridge or something.

I'd recommend some things to install and show him how to use, but you probably don't want to here them/already know what I'm going to say.
Yeah and after we got done I gave it a shot.

And about the typing in all caps:

And tell him (However you think best) that typing in CAPS when talking to someone is BAD manners!
I got one of those free forums and just he and I were on it and I finally told him it was big and I could see it just fine. STOP SHOUTING. He
hasn't been back in about a week. Oh well.

I'm STILL somewhat embarrased about that...
