  • Probly posponed so they could get lh out in time. dont know about dropped tho.

lets see what google brings up.
  • So what DID it bring up?

    Ans:

    http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/

"Official Site for Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort in Whistler, BC Canada."

    Hmm! That's an interesting name...

  • What was Blackcomb?
  • What is coming after LH, supposedly/currently.

    -Q
  • Microsoft Windows 2000whenever?
  • I don't know if they're going to give it a Year#, it seems like the svr ones have years, the clientside ones are random names (XP), this they may change.

  • Whistler and Blackcomb are mountains here in BC. Very popular skiing places, expensive resorts, etc. Longhorn is a pub located between the two mountains.

It's a popular vacation spot for ... guess who ... Microsoft execs.
  • O SMOOTH. So what other ones are there? I wonder if MS will last long enough to use all of them...

    -Q
  • So do you mean that Longhorn isn't the final name of that OS?
If so, what's the final will be?
  • Of course it's not final. :P Nearly all of the Windows OSes have had codenames while they were in development.

    XP was called "Whistler"
    2000 was called "NT 5.0"
    98 was called "Memphis"
    ... and so on.
  • i thought 2000 was neptune.....
  • No.

The most commonly repeated and believed story is that Neptune and Odyssey were the next consumer/workstation editions of Windows, both being based on NT. Microsoft eventually scrapped both projects, and combined them into one: Whistler.

However, there was a theory formulated somewhere that XP is actually a continuation of NT 5.0 (Windows 2000), whereas Neptune continues to exist today, but as Longhorn. Something weird of the sort ... the arguments were pretty convincing. Microsoft has never been too clear on the issue.
  • Isn't blackcomb supposedly just an update to longhorn? Not a new OS, but some huge addon.
  • LOL

Longhorn isn't even beta, and you're talking about the OS that follows IT?
    Sigh.
  • yeah something like that.
  • I thought that 2000 was actually going to be called NT5, but was changed...

Because microsoft has already talked about it.
  • Blackcomb, if it exists, is the server edition of Longhorn. Longhorn is the client (just like XP is the client), and Blackcomb is the server.

    XP --> Longhorn
    Server 2003 --> Blackcomb

That's what the mantra has always been. I don't know what MS has been up to, though.
  • Neptune and Whistler were combined and made Windows XP. As I know...
  • I thought that Neptune was merged to create Whistler...

Whistler *IS* Windows XP, I've already explained that.

Neptune + Odyssey = Whistler (Windows XP)
  • Hah. We won't be seeing Blackcomb till 2010-2012.
  • and by that time well we will hardly care about it, and wonder what the next OS will be after it
  • Everyone will forget about Microsoft by that time... if they don't make something completely new.
