This may be a little "unorganized"...

Anyways, is there a way to "cut costs" in a way? I have been looking, but this is as "cheap" as I got (I am trying to use "quality" parts) And what can I improve on?

Thanks, TcH

Comments

  • Looks pretty good. Its cheap.
  • The price is OK. Maybe even cheaper than we have here.
  • You can try to scrounge the floppy cable and drive, I do that frequently, recycling old good parts for the new machines (The one in BlacII.1 is from the old Compaq!)

    -Q
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Shitstation has more wattage than this system

    YOU need ATLEAST 350 watts.
  • I'd get the HDD from a regular store for cheaper... but you could drop the RAM to 256 and make it just a CD-ROM drive if you REALLY wanted to.

    Definitely increase the PSU.
  • Ok, so far:
    Things I'll do
Get more powerful PSU (how much do you guys think)
    Change drive to CDROM

    Things I don't/can't do
Downgrade RAM This computer is going to be in my basement (my bedrom is in my basement in an "apartment" our home is 2 fam, tho we only will have it for 1 fam) This comp is giong to be my main basement pc

    scrounge for cabkles/floppy drv

Can't, I don't have cables or drives aval here.
  • Changes:

    PSU:
    Price: $17 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 016&depa=1

    CDROM
    Price $19

BTW I have this gateway case, but dont have power button, how can I turn this thing on, should I just get a new case?
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • And just get a new case.
  • oh yea i agree with roger you need to pimp that pc up , but since your trying to stay on a cheap budge any old case will work as welll as the next
  • Get a case as good looking as Q's!
  • OK after helping TcH out we completely redesigned a system

    http://www.darktech.info/tch.html

#1 we wanted an ath 64 system, success
#2 get rid of cheap memory, got kingston instead.
#3 got a MUCH cheaper case with a BIGGER supply
#4 More ram, upgraded to 512mb
#5 Wanted a CD-RW AND a DVD-ROM drive, cut the DVD and kept the CD-RW
    #6 Wanted a 80gb hdd but costs allowed only a 40gb
#7 No fans because case comes with some.
#8 Mediocre Video card (128mb GeForce FX), TcH doesnt need that good of a video card (he said) so we cut costs there.
    #9 Cheap FDD and Cables.
#10 Better CPU fan thats not a shitty 9 dollar Ching Ho brand YET doesnt cost over 30 dollars.
#11 We had a budget raise to 480 dollars, we went over 28 dollars but his parents approved.

Anyone object to this config (please read the link for the parts we used)
  • Me and topher decided on these parts, and this computer is going to be great. I will build this near xmas time, so then I can give pictures.
  • I've got to get around to issuing A64 Cay Passports...

    -Q
  • I'd probably get the proc that includes the heatsink and warranty... if NewEgg offers that... have you compared with TigerDirect on prices?
  • I'd probably get the proc that includes the heatsink and warranty... if NewEgg offers that... have you compared with TigerDirect on prices?

#1 i think the proc. ended up to be cheaper than retailed box, lemme recheck

#2 i never even thought of tiger direct.
  • It's usually cheaper for OEM... but to me the reatiled box would be better because of the warranty.

    Probably should check CompGeeks, too.
