New Update for XP/2003!

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4500331/windows-update-kb4500331

It will not be distributed through Windows Update, but it can be applied to the regular, non-embedded XP as well as all 2003-based OSes.

Windows XP lives another day!!!

  • Awesome! I guess I have some machines to patch.

  • It would be nice to patch my XP machine, but my network card is broken right now.

  • Well, its obvious for MS to release patch for unsupported OS (they even patch winxp when wannacry attack goes public). But surprisingly they still patching high severity security hole even POSready 2009 (the last xp-based embeded windows) was expired from last April.

I also spotted many ATMs in one of Indonesian bank still booting winxp after their service crash in that machine not long time ago.

As for me, I saw a cash register with that in a restaurant, but that was in early 2016.

For this patch, maybe I can come and get it and put it on my XP VM that's been lying about doing nothing from the past few months. Just because I feel like it.

  • Oh man, microsoft seems still offer POSready 2009 ISO which support was endded from last April.

Personally, I'm stick at windows xp on my thinkpad x61 laptop as it just does work its jobs.

  • A minor time zone update has been issued for POSReady 2009:

That update is now gone from the update catalog. :(

Just like when someone on another forum found the original Office 2007-format compatibility pack for download on M$' website and it was taken down the next day.

I wonder if those could have been deliberate anti-win2k and anti-XP moves?

UPDATE: turns out that was for Premier support only, not meant to be publically released. Same for the win2k IE5/6 updates from 2012/13 but the security ISOs with them are still floating around.

One week left before the alleged discontinuation of Windows Update for Windows 2000, XP and 2003. I've heard that WSUS may continue working afterwards though this is all quite uncertain.
