Windows 2000 was a modernization of Windows NT 4.0 which brought many of the desktop changes, including Active Desktop, to Microsoft's Windows NT line. Four editions of Windows 2000 were released, Professional, Server, Advanced Server, Datacenter Server. Improvements over NT 4.0 include new Accessibility Options, increased language and locale support, NTFS 3.0, the Encrypting File System and Active Directory. • Is this the one with the cool startup sound?
  • If you mean the "Windows Whistler Startup and Shutdown sounds" they are fake.
  • @WackyH
Windows 95 startup sound is pretty cool, written by electronic music composer Brian Eno, incidentally written on a Mac.

No I mean this one: since this is Windows 2000 Beta 1 and Windows 2000 was also Windows NT 5.0.
  • Oh ok. Was getting a bit confused lol.
  • Anybody know what config and BIOS date in 86box I should use for build 1691?
  • never mind, just found the BIOS date: 10/24/1997
  • My dad said he used Windows NT 5.0 but Windows NT 5.0 came out as 2000. And he never worked at Microsoft! I dont really know what he means by that.
  • @vboxflareon Win 2k final was still known internally as NT 5.0, so he might have been referring to the internal name.
  • 1671's startup sound reversed makes a cool shutdown sound
  • I tried to install build 1691 on Virtualbox, but it NEVER wants to run setup at all! Especially when I make new machines or just upgrading from existing ones! IT JUST GIVES IN GURU MEDITATIONS!!!
  • @tadetayo61

You may want to try running it in an emulator rather than VirtualBox. It runs fine in 86Box.
