OFFER!!!... LightWave 3D 6.5 Win32 (2000) - The Capable 'Missing Link' Version>>>
Took me awhile to find this version... 5.5 was all over as well as the various 7's. 6.5 was pivotal as it was the upgrade & improve of version 6 which set the standard for future LW GUI & workflow. 6 was first with the HUB as well...
Even the Logo was the coolest version-
LightWave 6.0 came out in 1999 & was ahead of most all others in many areas...It had Global Illumination-Radiosity, and not the 'fake' stuff like trueSpace 4 or FormZ RenderZone 3.x... It can ingest .HDR images & use the color & depth info properly...It had a ton of model tools with abilities up there with Nichimen Mirai...It had symmetry that worked CORRECTLY, you push the button, pick options & BAM!...You work on one side of model & the other follows along & you can work on EITHER side... Get in & Out of SubD just by hitting TAB key...The highly touted 'falloff widgets' that were bragged on in upcoming Modo when Peebler broke off with NewTek to make his own company, are here in LW 6.5...
Though not cheap still was way cheaper than 3DS Max or Maya...
Though there was not much in video tuts for it there was plenty of books... I have 3 off ebay with another on the way, because of the 'obsolete' nature cheap prices abound...
LW 6.5 is also the 'Shader King'... Seems like all kinda 3rd Party shaders made up... I am talking the actual nodes, not material presets...
This is also no-bloat tight coding as well... You install is like 42 MB with 15 MB extra presets so base app is only 27-28 MB which is simply amazing...
So onto the 'Joy of Six'
Follow directions included for proper install lest you be sorry...

Here's the Shades Project for LW 6.5... This adds 36 Extra Shader Nodes to LightWave 6.5 so You'll be well on your way to Shader Queen Status... Still a ways to go for Shader King Status...
The ACTUAL download is here-
https://web.archive.org/web/20100707025522/http://amber.rc.arizona.edu/lw/shades/plugins/shades2_60i.zip
So you would put that in the LW plugins-Texture folder & add in LightWave (not Modeler)...

Also forgot to say on the previous 'Shades Project' after adding the plugin you will have to add a couple legacy plugs located at-
LightWave\programs\Legacy_plugins\Common
Add - EnvAccess.p & Gradient.p
Now all shader project nodes should work fine...

The Creative Magic of Ron Thornton (LW 5.5)-
thanks for sharing
Will have some plugs to share for this soon as well...
The 'Extender' plug in LW 6.5 don't work too well for makin' polygon strips... You can only choose 2 points to 'extend' into a new polygon & sometimes new polygon comes in with face normals flipped...
Found 'FIs_OExtender.p' NOW all works well with as many points as you wish faces all staying same normals direction also with numerical option...
This is for making polygon strips extruding an edge by selecting points... To do same by selecting a polygon on a volume one should use the 'Smooth Shift' command...
After some testing found Sasquatch Plug that don't scream out license error.. So now in LW 6.5 'Hair is back on the menu boys'. Takes awhile to learn this plug I guess it couldn't be too simple as it was a $500 plug (Worley's most expensive)...
All scene files working-
Included a manual & some tuts as well...
Both plugs & extras-

Works in 6.5 fine... Adds 36 shader nodes as well as a buttload of presets...
Getting close to Shader King status... Not quite, Maybe Shader Tranny at this point...

Another shader plug for sub-surface scattering, blurry reflections & more-
That's pretty much all the test scenes...
NOTE - If you install any plugs then mess about & do the dumb & Lightwave or Modeler crash you will have to re-add the plugs again... So best to add plugs then EXIT just once then the plugs are burned into the system...

First is OGO Hikari which is a SSS plug (Sub-Surface Scattering) I think it works great in that capacity. Does alot of other stuff too-
I am uploading the 'medicated' plug but go to original page for extra presets, info, scenes, etc-

Amazing the devs page is still around...
Then Polas Grass Generator-
It simply works...
Also is Plane Belt Selector-
As I test more I will upload more-

Here's video a guy did back in 2001 on head modeling so this was done in either LW 6.5 or 7... Using just a few simple tools, staying in Sub-D mode (Sub-patch) using smooth shift & spinquad ALOT!!
Doing a comparison as trueSpace 4 was out at same time as LW6... However Dan Ablan's Lightwave 6 Chick looks awesome whilst Frank Rivera's 'Injun' looks like well, it REMINDS me of those old westerns where they had white guys with 'spray tans' playing 'Injun' roles... Not the best of advertisements IMHO...
Of course lacking abit with no sound...
Looks like Lightwave is gonna be a great candidate for the Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander (which is a mouthful...)...
Originally for gaming it's MUCH MUCH better than a friggin' QWERTY for shortcuts...Only issue is that the old soft won't install on newer machines but a guy MADE one that would-
https://archive.org/details/StrategicSetupv1.3
Profiles can be saved as well...This morning I figured I'd fix up a better charting system as before just sketching out on paper...
So cutout with balloons & arrows to 'just the right size' GIF to load into GIF Mate & slide almost offscreen when not in use...Only have the top-tier & toggle figured out for now...Will figure the red & green tiers later when I realize whats gonna be the best to apply to them...
I have 3 of these now...One can get them on Ebay for around 20 bucks & most have hardly ever been used...
Newer ones don't have the same ability to program any shortcut or combo to bind to any button just 'presets' for whatever 'game'...
I watched a MS ad for it... very impressive!
Never figured out why nobody used one for OTHER than games...
Here's one a guy is reviewing a few years ago... Funny how he is playing Age of Empires 2 which I still play to this day (yesterday in fact) as well as Diablo 2...
BUTT!... I don't use Strategic Commander in either...
Here's my template image... I didn't make ovals for the last shift button because I don't ever need to go that far...
First is legendary VertiBevel which you design your own bevel using curves on graph plus much other... Was 150 bucks back in the day...Really had to parse around as most of these were for later LWs, this early version working great in 6.5...
When you first use just put in any serial I used all letters in all caps...
Second is Bevel++ from Japanese dev either retail or medicated has options as well nice alternative bevel plug...
Third is Cool Subdivision works well does the 'different' if you turn on 'Triple' makes it look like an archipelis model in SubPatch mode...

First is GenesisVFX Lightwave version... Much the same as the PS version but for LW, lotta panels & settings. You have to link the effect to a null or other lest nothing show...
It did not come with presets but I found the PS version & those work fine in the LW version-
Second is 'StretchPoints' plugin allowing you to choose 2 or more points & stretch them along that same axis in a straight line...Seems logical...
Thirdly...Well if you are tired of modeling the demons of your desires there is Creature Creator 1.6 where you mix-match parts up & such then send them into Modeler & all surfaces are separate so you can assign colors then save model then send to Layout to finish up using shaders-maps where you can see all in VIPER-

Here is a head trip for you... It's a video review of Creature Creator (1.1) from 1999 like January or February which was before LW 6.0 came out so reviewer is using LW 5.6 which is very different from LW 6.0-UP-

3 More plugs...First one very interesting 'Relativity' which be an animation plugin that has many 'Professors' to help you out or if a math geek you can bypass those perverts altogether...
I found cracked version 2 just plug but came up with some scene files from version 1 AND a review video for pre-release to version 1 in Lightwave 5.6 which may provide more clues as I can find no documentation...
Second is Swift3D which is an export plug for flash & vector files... Works great & one can make lightwave animations into vector EPS - AI sequences for Flash, Livemotion, Fireworks, ETC...
Last is GENE which is modeler plug for making branching extrusions for organics or greeble krap-

However it does what it claims & this was in 6.0 which was 1999 I find pretty amazing...
Most back then never tried as they would have to have their machines on a week or more rendering with fingers crossed...
In dual-core 2.2 GHZ with 4 GB RAM taking 15-20 minutes...
We got Dark Sim Dark Tree 1.10 from around the 2000-2001 year... This is the matchup to Lightwave 6.5 but also includes simbionts for Max 2-3-4 & HASH Animation Master & trueSpace 4 of that time frame...
The simbiont is a plug that brings the Dark Trees into Lightwave as a PROCEDURAL function...
Yes, this be a genius app coded by a genius that unfortunately DIED around 2006 & nobody has had the brains to continue it on... Very sad...
Other where geniuses apps had devs that died premature are-
Firehand Ember (Genius Viewer App)
Making Waves (Genius Music Creation App)
Aodix & Many More (Arguru ALWAYS Missed)
Anyways you can use the standalone to modify or create new Dark Trees and also to render out image maps any size so useful as texture app for others even if you don't need the simbiont connectors...
You see it's all 'Nodal Packet' style...
Comes with extra everything like always...

Xfrog for LW 6.5... Allows you to bring in Xfrog Plants (XFR) into LW... Works pretty good too no crashing...
Have included a number of extra Xfrog plants...
Rendered out 4 of them using radiosity-
If you start a render & your leaves look like square flaps abort it go into image editor & parse through the leaf images & push 'disable alpha'... I know it seems the wrong thing to do but NOW the transparent part of the leaves will render as transparent...
Also included is Dynamic Realities RealiTools which is a cluster of stuff mostly weird shaders but other stuff too...

Still just looks like the pleasant old-time lox-REZ...
