Grrrrr Windows XP Repair

This is just terrific (exaggerated)

Ok, So I did a repair install earlier today, and guess what happened? Ok The DOS Setup did just fine, but the one with the GUI, ok, so it installed drivers, then a few other things, then (i think nearing the end) a blue screen with very small text. My computer restarted, then my computer says after the XP Home startup screen "Setup is being restarted........"

anyways, how can I cure this problem?

Right now I am going to get a bartPE cd created.

  • And your computer is restarted constantly after that message displays?
  • yea, my computer restarts, boots up into Windows XP GUI Setup, then installs drivers, and etc, then when it says "35 minutes left" that is when it stops. Anyway, I am using BartPE to backup all my C: drive onto my external HDD, then I am going to restore fom my COmpaq Disks, basicly a whole new install
  • Just reinstall, its as easy as that.
  • It sounds like it might be a trojan.
I'd be careful with the backup files on your external or
you may put something back that could reinfect it.
I can't remember what I used to remove mine before.
    Good luck.

  • where is the trojan? It couldn't be on the disk because i used it while back

I reread this again a time or two and I was probably wrong.
It wouldn't be on your restore disks it there is a trojan it
might go on your external hard drive inside your backups
and if you put the files back it could reinfect again. It'll
    probably be fine though.
