Chicago Build 58

I am trying to install Chicago Build 58.

It is missing some font files, but I don't think that is important.

When Chicago Begins booting up, it crashes.

Any ideas?


PS I'm installing this in VMware on a p4 cpu computer.

    Nah, I've seen some dumbfucker take an Athlon 1.8GHz and stick Windows 3.11 on it, It should work.

    Did you install DOS? I'd boot from a DOS floppy, format it clean then Install Chicago.

    Wierd....

    It crashed on me once but that was b ecuase I had 98 DOS on it and it didnt like it. I just formatted it, leaving it unbootable then installed Chicago.

    I've given up on Chicago 58 for now.


    Right now I'm trying to install Chicago 189. Does anyone have the beta site id and password for it?

    I've had this before. Boot into DOS and type "LOCK C:" or "UNLOCK C:"...worked for me.

    Well, I really dunno, I had no missing files... But I've installed it to i386DX... never tried in VPC...

    try VMWare, if that don't work, then i dont know what to say.


    Try to re-download the file, it could be corrupted?

    If you got missing files it won't let you install.

    I had a fucked up copy once, it verifys files and if it finds a corrupt CAB files itll stop.

    Is there even any real purpose for using any version of chicago? I don't remember but does it actually run any programs correctly?

    Errr...don't know.

    I belieave newer builds like 490 are like 90% identical to 95 Final and run 95 apps.

    OK if you get the error about CAB.EXE or CAB32.EXE (I don't remember which) then I got that too and there's not much you can do.

    As to the Beta ID and site ID, that should be in the RAR.

    Try to install all old OSes on non-686 CPU... P1 and earlier...

    Where did you get your copy?

    I got 2, 1 off k-semler and one off TCPMeta. I only tested k-semlers which is fucked.

    If it's an error on startup about an EXE file with "CAB" in its name then I get that too and think that it's just too early a beta to work.

    I got into setup, entered in my serial/ID, then when halfway copying files it gave me an error or corrupt file. I could try remaking the CAB with a 95 file... Hmm......

    Hello all ,my first post . First of all the cab32.exe error iv'e only seen in
    build 73 because it installs with 30 files & buffers, which needs to be 90, I
    have a fixed 73 which installs with 90 of each & boots first go , secondly
    all builds of 58s iv'e seen around have 5 missing files & give an error
    about being unable to load network.drv , which is because the system.ini
    needs a network driver listed in it. I also have a fully fixed copy of 58s which took me 4 days to fix , well - 4 days to find the missing files & fix.
    If someone has a server id be happy to up it.
