I talked to my dad and were gonna try to work out buying parts for a new svr for xmas. It would be an AMD sempron based, i was looking at the 2300+, which would be all that i can afford.
The reason the PR rating is higher than regular Athlon XP's is because it's meant to compete with a Celeron IV, and everything competes with a Celeron IV, even my TI-83.
What are the hard drives in both? The hard drive matters the most when loading Windows.
Back in the day when I had a K6-2 400 MHz with an ATA 100 controller and a 7200 RPM ATA 100 drive, XP loaded almost as fast as on my XP 1800 with the same hard drive.

Tomchu, Question for you. you recompilied your kernel for optimum preformance on the Athlon.
Will that athlon tag work on the sempron too? (isint the semp based on the ath core, or adleast the one im looking at is)
athlon 2400 = 2GHz

But I think this thing is getting owned by a celeron.

My mom's computer (A Celeron 400 MHz / 192 MB RAM) takes 3 - 5 minutes to get to the Windows XP SP1 desktop.
My Toshiba 2100CDT laptop (AMD K6/2 400 MHz/ 192 MB RAM) takes less than 1.5 minutes to get to the Windows XP SP1 desktop.
Both are almost equally loaded as far as startup items and no spyware on either.

I've noticed that. I did the same.
