Need to Break into Windows 2000

edited December 2004 in Hardware
My son had me help him by phone with a laptop they gave him
from where he used to work. He wanted to install XP and didn't
know if it would work so we made a new primary partition and he
installed XP on it.

It arrived at my home yesterday as a Christmas present to me.
I couldn't believe it.

Now how can I get into the Windows 2000 without a user name
or password. I'm getting into XP fine. Is there some easy way
to hack my way in?

  • You would probly have to crack the admin password. I know there are some tools so id have to hunt them up.

I think there are other ways im not thinking of.
  • Why not just format and reinstall?
  • I think he wants into the old install but i dunno, if theres no filez you need a format would be good.

btw, shouldnt this be in Windows NT fourm?
  • It's real big and I'd like to see what's in there. The XP's working fine and just needs the modem driver and a graphics driver. It
looks fine to me and I don't play games though. It don't know the
    modem.

I can copy out Windows 2000 and whatever programs I can find
but I'd like to see how it looks first.

Sorry Topher, you're right. It's my new hardware but it's a
software problem. I just wasn't thinking I guess.

Anyway it's a Delll and it's got a official Dell sticker on the bottom
that says Windows XP Home but his company took it off and put
Windows 2000 on it. He got one of the last they did that to and
that's why his was the last to be replaced. His new one has
    XP Pro already on it.

It's got 512 MBS of ram and is only using 128 so it must not have much shared stuff. I had it up today but forgot to see
    what the processor was.

Easy. Use ERD Commander and reset the pass. :P
Hey Tomchu, thank goodness you're here. It's late but I'll hunt
ERD Commander tomorrow. I don't know the user either though.
I've never had or really even ever got to try a laptop before and
this one that seems to excede anything I've ever had looks a
little different than I'm used to.

I know I can find the drivers and copy any important programs
but I just want to see it and save a working copy.

Send me an email or contact me on my website. I'll send the ISO over (it's like 50 MB).
    Thanks Tomchu.
I think that's what I'll have to try.

This must be the finest computer I've ever had.
    It's a Dell Latitude C640. It's using a little more ram now,
    I don't know what I did. Memory=512.00MB Available=358.21MB
    x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~1794 Mhz
    Is that Pentium 3?

I don't know how I could, I can't get past the login screen and
have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the log-in thing.
I already resent the password without directions from m$.
    {Just Kidding, I knew you meant reset.}
I am going to slowly try to swap out the floppy drive with the
CD drive and run Bart's PE and just try to do a small inventory.

I tried emailing you ages ago with the link to ERD Commander, but perhaps next time give me a working email, yes? :P

    Anyway, http://www.tomchu.com/ERD_Commander_2003.rar
I'm sorry Tomchu, I don't know what happened. I would never send you
a wrong e-mail addy on purpose and I went often to it to see if you'd
responeded. It must have been a typo. I believe my forum e-mail is
listed as THUMP@draac.com but it's not too trustworthy but I've always
got the responses of everyone else {I hope.} I will send you another
by a more private means if you'd like to write me anything.

It's become overly spammed and I usually have to delete the entire
first listing to get to the real ones. I didn't know. No disrest intended.
