Best Virus Scanner?

edited December 2004 in Software
I'm currently running Norton Corporate v7 and it's getting old so I'm looking to get a new virus scanner. Norton Corporate v9 is out, is it any good? I've also heard that regular Norton Internet Security 2005 and PC-Cillin 2005 are also good as well.

I've also heard AVG is good as well. Is it worth it to get the Pro version? And I've also heard good things about Antivir.

What are some thoughts on this?

  • GET NOD32!!!!!!
  • NOD32.

It's a very small program, doesn't eat your processor cycles like N0tRun and is easy to "borrow".
  • if u wanna keep things legal.... AVG
  • I would rather keep things legal, but I would rather have a better "pay" program than a half way decent free one. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into NOD32. I also have Norton Corporate 9 and PC-Cillin 2005, I'm still researching those as well. I'll also look into AVG Free and Pro.

But I have heard a lot of good things about NOD32 so I'll give that the first look.
  • AVG free edition has recently updated to versions 7.0 of their anti-virus, might as well get that. You won't be loosing anything special by not buying the pro version.
  • the 7 free one is fine i use it and have had no problmes, it updates itself and scans every night so i dont need to :P

my system is quiet (it's... mini...) the hard drive is loud though...
  • my hard drive is silent, if i put it in my server ive got like a silent machine
  • i still use norton antivirus 2001 it does the trick for me
  • I used to believe that too, but NOD32 is just the best. Norton really slows things down.
  • You using a 133MHz? Works like a charm for me. Think I should remove it though. I run it like once a week and find nothing.

And I'd advise you update yours. That was like four years ago.
  • I use NIS/NAV 2003. Doesnt seem to slow anything down for me.
  • I use NAV 2005. Scanning right now. Runs the same.

    :?

and I'd advise you to not assume that no one's as smart as you. I've been here a lot longer, though I do appreciate your input.

It was like NAV04 or something.... scannign wasn't bad, but I noticed on opening word files it'd wait to scan for longer than I desired. My time was too important.
  • NOD32 is what I recommend (No connexion), you can try it out with a trial, and see what you think, and then buy it.

  • I like F-Prot because it has a DOS version to repair a completely hosed Windows.
  • I bet the best is NOD32...
  • f-prot is good, i used it to clean windows a few times
  • Kaspersky is reliable, though it's slow a little.
  • F-Prot I forgot to mention. It's got a free DOS version which as NI said can be used to clean up after a virus infects files in Windows.

  • yeh cos i got one that infected most system files that were in use when u ran a windows scanner
  • Activating Norton 2005 is REALLY Hard, or at least for me... I have 2004, which doesnt activate so I use it, and I just update it...
  • Unplug your ethernet cable and get out the trusty keygen. :-)

  • It phones home.
