What kind of 486 is it? if its >66mhz you can try OS/2 warp 3!

There was a floppy version of 3.

I have 4 on CD but never seen it on floppies. It's probably quite a few though. It's about the size of 98FE when installed. ~200MB

You can run OS/2 warp 3 and OS/2 warp 4 without voicetype on your laptop. it'll run fine with 100mhz.

FreeBSD for the i386 requires a 486 or better processor to install and run (although FreeBSD can run on 386 processors with a custom kernel) and at least 8 megs of RAM to install and 7 megs to run. You will need at least 150MB of free hard drive space for the most minimal installation. See below for ways of shrinking existing DOS partitions in order to install FreeBSD.

Nah.. I have FreeBSD 5.2 and on the cd it's splitted into floppy images.. but.. I need something more optimized for my 486..

You can make disks from the /floppies directory on the CD. You need 2 (maybe 3) floppies and a copy of rawrite. You can FTP install with that.
